Cowichan Hospice House

A partnership between Island Health and Cowichan Hospice,
Cowichan Hospice House is a home-like environment that provides personalized care based on your needs and wishes.

Excellent medical care is provided around the clock. Patients continue to be cared for by their own physician with support from a Palliative Specialist physician as required. Island Health staff provide medical care, easing challenging symptoms and honouring each individual's priorities. Cowichan Hospice staff and specially trained volunteers provide emotional and practical support, information and resources to patients, their caregivers and loved ones.​

A Place to Live Well at the End of Life

Patient Rooms

Patient rooms at Cowichan Hospice House are spacious and bright, featuring opening windows and views of heritage homes, gardens and sky. Beds can be expanded to allow for snuggling, and each room has a folding couch and recliner for overnight or napping guests. Other Resident Room Features Include: Private washroom Small fridge Personal safe Overhead lift Individual temperature controls Cupboards Patients are welcome to have family and friends visit to support them during their stay. Pets (well-behaved) are welcome in patient's rooms.

Amenities and Information for
Families and Visitors

Whole families can gather together in their loved ones’ rooms, the family area, kitchen, sacred space and children’s play area. The aromas of home cooking often drift from the kitchen as families and volunteers prepare favourite foods. Living Room A bright and open living room area offers cozy seating beside an electric fireplace — a perfect spot to snuggle up with a cup of tea. Family Kitchen and Dining Area A full kitchen allows for all the comforts of home, including a coffee machine, fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and comfortable seating. Family Amenities Down the hall are a washer and dryer for resident and family use, and a shower for family use. Sacred Space A private place for reflection or for gathering to honour important practices and traditions. Rotary Garden Designed with paths to accommodate wheelchairs, the garden is a beautiful space providing tranquility for residents, families and friends. Spa Room The spa room offers deep relaxation in a hydrotherapy bath and is equipped with ceiling lifts to help with positioning. Children’s Play Area A welcoming space for children to play, read, make art, or make friends with other visiting children, with comfy furniture and storage for toys and art supplies.
